This year’s rankings—based on a comparison of 4,500 medical centers across 25 specialties, procedures and conditions—was released on August 14th. In order to qualify for consideration, a hospital had to meet any of the four following standards: 1. Be a teaching hospital 2. Be affiliated with a medical school 3. Have at least 200 beds set up and staffed 4. Have at least 100 beds and offer at least 4 of the 8 advanced technologies: PET/CT scanner, precision radiation therapies, etc.   Of the initial pool of hospitals, 2,264 met one of these four criteria. ## The Honor Roll: 20 Top Hospitals The [Honor Roll](https://health.usnews.com/health-care/best-hospitals/articles/faq-how-and-why-we-rank-and-rate-hospitals#honor-roll-hospitals), the 20 hospitals with the “highest rankings and the greatest number of high performing procedure and condition ratings,” is as follows: - 1.
